How to Lock the Dock

Posted by greg on Feb 4, 2008 in Macintosh |

If your like me and have kids that use your Mac, they really like to remove items from the dock. At first I thought that they were doing this inadvertently. Much to my surprise, they actually call it “poofing”, which is a term a 7 and 4 year old uses to drag things off the dock. Of course this term takes on a new meaning when they are in their teens, I’m sure.

To lock the items on your dock, open a Termonal Window and type:

defaults write com.apple.dock contents-immutable -bool true

Then type:

killall Dock.

To Undo this, simply type:

defaults write com.apple.dock contents-immutable -bool false

Then type:

killall Dock
